Sports Knives, an Introduction to the Different Types

In the world of sports knives there are many different types and many different manufacturers of sports knives.  Most manufacturers specialize in several types of sports knives.  This article was written to give a brief introduction to five of the most common types of sports knives.  These five sports knives types include: Hunting Knives, Fishing Knives, Tactical Knives, Combat Knives, and Pocket Knives.

Hunting knives are necessary sports knives for any hunter.  There are many variations to these common sports knives.  They are offered in both fixed blades and folding blades.  The edge of the blade are offered in three variations, straight, serrated, and partially serrated.  In my experience most hunters prefer the straight edge blade on these particular sports knives.  An additional option to the blade of many hunting knives is the gut hook and many hunters find this to be very useful.

Fishing knives are the obvious sports knives for fishermen.  Fishing knives come with a straight edge blade that is typically long, narrow, and flexible.  This design is to aid in filleting.  Most of these sports knives will come with a rubber handle for a better grip while using in wet conditions.

Tactical knives are the typical sports knives used in survival and scouting.  These sports knives are typically fixed blade with a combination of straight and serrated edge, but occasionally offered in a folding blade.  These sports knives often have a larger blade than what a hunting knife may have and in many cases are double edged.

The most common sports knives are pocket knives.  These sports knives are habitually carried by many people as they would do with a set of keys or there wallet.  The blades of these sports knives are almost always a folding blade and are typically three and a half inches or less in length when closed for ease of carrying in a pocket.  Most of these sports knives come in a straight edge but can also come in serrated or combination.  Some other common names for these types of sports knives are folding knives or lock-back knives.

Obviously this article just briefly described these top 5 sports knives.  Hopefully this give the reader a better understanding of these sports knives.  As stated previously, there are many manufacturers dedicated to manufacturing quality sports knives of these types.  Look for future articles solely dedicated to each of these different types of sports knives.
